William E. Moore, Jr
age 75, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away, Friday afternoon, March 15, 2013 at the Hospice of Cincinnati-Blue Ash Center.
He was born November 12, 1937 in Blanchester, OH, son of the lateWilliam Ellsworth & Lormira Maxine (Phillips) Moore Sr. He was born at home and raised in Martinsville. From the start of his life, he was a man that once he started something, he always finished it.
He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1955 and then joined the Navy and traveled across the equator many times. While he was serving, an explorer got lost and the icebreaker that he was on had to rescue him in the Antartica. He was aboard the USS Glacier AGB-4.
Bill retired from the Standard Register Co in Dayton after 35 years. During that time he married the love of his life on September 23, 1961 in Blanchester,Ohio- Regina Simonson Moore, who survives. They were married for over 51 years. Together, they had 5 children. They also raised 3 foster children and one nephew. After retirement, Bill became restless and decided to drive for the Wilmington City Cab, where he enjoyed meeting and talking with others. Due to a stroke almost 2 years ago, he had to give up driving the cab. He was a miracle to be given a second chance on life as he bounced back.
He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, where he was an usher, The Wilmington FOE #1224 Eagles, where he was a Golden Eagle, The Wilmington Savings Bank Senior Citizen Center. he was a lifetime Blood Donor and an Organ Donor
In addition to his wife, other survivors are his 4 children- daughter- Cindy (Dan) Bowman of Wilmington, OH, son- Tom (Kim) Moore of Chillicothe, OH, son- Tony (Mindy) Moore of Lebanon, OH, & daughter- Kelli (Jan) Christensen of Blanchester, OH; 12 grandchildren- Matthew Bowman, Tara Bowman, Kayla Moore, Alani Moore, Tim Moore, Lauren Moore, Morgan Moore, Ava Moore, Zach Christensen, Holly Christensen, Kai Christensen and Megan Canavan; a great-grandson- Eli Sparks; daughter-in-law- Nancy Moore of Wilmington, OH; sister- Joan (Gerald) Conley of Melbourne, FL; and 40 nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son- Timothy Moore.
Prayers will be said 10:10 AM, Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry Street, Wilmington, follwoed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 North Mulberry Street, Wilmington with Rev. Michael Holloran officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Ohio, where the Wilmington American Legion Post Memorial Squad will accord full military honors.
Friends will be received from 4-8 PM, Thursday, March 21 at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington, OH .
