Suzanne Miars

September 6, 1923 — January 6, 2023

Wilmington

Suzanne Margaret Miars,
99, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 6, 2023.  She was born September 6, 1923 in Fremont, Ohio, daughter of the late Wilbur Clarence and Aimee Margaret (Decker) Sommers.
Susie (as she was known then) grew up on a dairy farm and attended Capital University where she graduated in 1945 with a degree in Music.  She met the first love of her life, Robert Betson, whom she would marry and raise three children in St. Joseph, Michigan, until Robert’s passing in 1975.  Reconnecting with college friends she met Harry S. Miars whom she would marry in 1978. She always claimed she didn’t know how lucky she was to have two wonderful, caring, and loving husbands to her and fathers to her children.
Sue was a special woman who got involved in her community.  She taught music for a period and was also active at Saron Lutheran Church in Michigan. In Wilmington she was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Wilmington Garden Club, English Club, The Brush & Pen Club, CMH Alliance Auxiliary and several book clubs.  She followed politics and loved a good chat with anyone who would like to debate. Suzanne was an extremely kind and independent person who was deeply devoted to her family and made her proud every day.
Surviving are her son, David (Jennifer Warlick) Betson of South Bend, IN and daughters, Susan (David) Hogarth of Orlando, FL and Lisa (Peter) Resnik of Louisville, KY; step-daughter, Rebecca Miars of Cincinnati, OH and step-son, Mark (Rita) Miars of Wilmington, OH.  She was so proud of all her grandchildren: Nicholas (Sally Chen), Elizabeth, and Andrew (Hilary) Betson, Megan Hogarth, Alexander, Eli and Zachary Resnik, and Laura (Michael) Miars Alwan; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her first and second husbands and three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held on January 13 at Faith Lutheran Church at 11:00 am.  Visitation at 10:00 am at the same location:  421 East Vine Street at Prairie Avenue, Wilmington, OH 45177 with Pastor Joel Richter officiating.  Internment will be at the Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, Michigan.
