Sue Jacqueline Nave, age 86, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Hillsboro passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 at her home.
She was born November 15, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of the late Victor Nave and Mary Beltz Nave. Mary passed away when Sue was 5 years old. Daisy Yochum joined the family when Sue was 9 years old, when Victor remarried in 1946. Sue graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio. She attended Parsons School of Design in New York City and graduated from the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida with a degree in Fashion Design. Sue started her fashion career at Lord and Taylor on Fifth Ave. in New York City; then moved back to Dayton, Ohio to work at the Rike Kumler Co. for 16 years; positions included assistant buyer, buyer of dresses, and management position in all their stores. She was named the first woman store manager. Sue relocated to California in 1977 to work for the Cart, Hawley, and Hale Stores in Sacramento and Los Angeles; which included Weinstocks and the Broadway Stores for 9 years. She was the first woman manager brought in from outside the company. In 1986 she moved to Sarasota, Florida to work for Robinson's-May Co. Maison Blanche, where she became the Divisional Vice President. After a 33 year career in retailing, she retired in 1991. Following retirement, Sue and Daisy divided their time between their home in Hillsboro, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida. Daisy passed away in 2003 at 99 years and 9 months old.
Sue had a great love of antiques, attending auctions, and collecting treasures to decorate her home. She loved books, paintings, and trying out new recipes and restaurants with good friends. Most of all, Sue had a great passion and concern for animals, especially cats. She was a member of the Church of the Palms in Sarasota, Florida. and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
Sue is survived by many loving cousins and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown with Rev. Maurice Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Mowrystown Cemetery.
Friends will be received at Edgington Funeral Home on Wednesday, 2:00 - 3:00 pm..
