Stephen Jones

Stephen G. Jones, age 55, of Leesburg, IN, formerly of Hillsboro, Ohio passed away Sunday,  January 28, 2018 at his home.

He was born April 13, 1962 in Hillsboro, OH, son of Wilbert L. Jones Jr. and Thelma Marie Lindsay Jones.

He graduated in 1980 from Hillsboro High School, attended Salem College in West Virginia, graduated in 1984 from Anderson College in Anderson, IN, and received his Master’s Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. He grew up in Hillsboro, OH and was an outstanding athlete in high school and college, excelling in football. Following school he moved to the North Webster / Leesburg area in 1994 from Anderson, IN. He was married on June 8, 1991 in Markleville, IN to Lori E. Whiteley who survives. He was employed at Wawasee Community School Corporation as P.E. Teacher at North Webster Elementary for 21 years and was a former policeman for the Anderson Police Dept. for 10 years.

He was a member of the Church of God in North Webster, Sons of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, and the N.R.A. He was a coach for numerous sports teams in the Wawasee Community School System and the surrounding area.

Surviving is his wife, Lori E. Jones of Leesburg, IN, whom he married June 8, 1991,  two sons, Jacob Jones of Ft. Wayne, IN, Hunter Jones of Ft. Wayne, IN, daughter, Molly Jones of Leesburg, IN, father, Wilbert L. Jones, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK, brother, Wilbert "Billy" Jones III of Englewood, OH, sister, Sharon Jones of Fairborn, OH, and  brother, Doug Jones of Fairborn, OH. Steve is also survived by his close Hillsboro family members, Donnie and Gerry Lynn Jones, Hoagie Jones, and Seneca Kanatzar.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Marie Jones, and his grandmother, Irene Jones who helped raise him.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw, IN. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & C.R. 500 N, North Webster, IN and 1 hour prior to the services at the school on Saturday. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in the North Webster Elementary School Gymnasium, 5745 N. 750E, North Webster, IN with Pastor Jeff Boyer of the Church of God & Pastor Myron Drent of Country Bible Church officiating.

A gathering of friends and family will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Hillsboro Pondo Banquet Center with Rev. Mike Paraniuk officiating. Following the Celebration of Steve's Life family and friends are invited to stay and share refreshments, personal tributes, and stories about Steve.
