Shelby Gene Rogers

Shelby “Gene” Rogers, age 86 years of Clarksville, Ohio passed away Tuesday morning, September 17,2024 at his home. He was born March 18,1938 in Brodhead, Kentucky, son of the late Shirley Gene and Thelma Michelle (Mink) Rogers. He married Shirley Jean (McCracken) Rogers on June 10th,1977 in Newport Kentucky who survives of the home and was with him at his passing.

Gene retired from International Paper in Dayton, Ohio where he worked as a press machine operator for over forty years of service. After retirement, Gene became an avid gardener who could grow anything, including seeds from discarded fruits and vegetables. His land is filled with beautiful trees from twigs he planted and “volunteer” plants which he allowed to grow. Anything his garden, fruit trees and hens produced he generously shared with family and friends. In his younger days he loved to dance and ride his motorcycle.

Gene was a member of Blanchester Church of Christ where he selected and sang hymns. He loved to read the Bible and was strong in his Faith.

In addition to his wife, other surviving family members are - his son Johnny (Lana) Rogers of Indianapolis, IN; stepdaughter Linda S, (Steve) Abbot of Green Township, OH; grandsons Shawn Rogers and Aaron Rogers; step-grandchildren Jennifer (Josh) Morgan; Ben Bach: Dwayne Bach; Autumn Rooks; Derrick Abbot and Chris Abbot; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his daughter – Michelle Dundes; stepdaughter Lisa Cherry Hacker; and brother Curtis Rogers.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to John Rogers to help with expenses.
