Ruth Blackmore McKay, age 92, of Cape May Retirement Village went to be with her Lord on April 3, 2013 at the Hospice of Dayton.
She was born June 28, 1920 in Hillsboro, OH, daughter of the late Clark and Goldie Blackmore. She was married to Donald Starbuck McKay July 20, 1941 and he preceded her in death February 15, 1997.
Mrs. McKay graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1938. While attending high school she won many honors including 3 medals for public speaking. She was in both the Junior and Senior class plays as well as singing groups.
She attended Wilmington College where she worked in the Bursars office under the late Arthur L. Hunt all during her college years. It was at Wilmington College where she met her husband to be, Donald S. McKay. Since they were both only 17 years old they dated all through their college years. Upon graduation they were married July 20, 1941.
While in college Mrs. McKay was a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority. Upon graduation she taught 3rd and 4th grades at Mason, Ohio School. Later she did substitute teaching at Johnsville-New Lebanon (Dixie) High School while her husband taught there. She and her husband lived on a farm for several years. They later went into the Nationwide Insurance business where she was her husband's office manager for 35 years.
She was an active member of the Wilmington Church of Christ from its first year of being founded. She taught the 5 year old Beginners class for 20 years and was a faithful Elders wife for 32 years.
Survivors include her beloved daughter Marilyn (Pat) Larrick of Wilmington, and beloved son Dwight (Lynn) McKay, of Newmanstown, PA. Also four granddaughters: Kathi McKay Gascho of Tucson , AZ., Joyce McKay, Lancaster, PA., Lisa Larrick (Dwight) Schell of Fort Mitchell, KY., and Angela Larrick (Chuck) Tucker, of Wilmington, OH. Four step-grandsons, Paul Rhineer, Adelaide, Australia, Jeremy Rhineer of Lancaster, PA, Brad (Jessica) Tucker, of Blanchester, and Matt Tucker, of Wilmington. Four great granddaughters, Amanda Gascho Niehaus, Morgan Gascho, Rachel Gascho, all of Tucson, AZ. Lauren Schell of Fort Mitchell, KY. Three great grandsons, Cameron Tucker, Patrick Tucker, both of Wilmington, and Jacob Schell of Fort Mitchell, KY. One great-great step grandson, Ty Tucker. She is also survived by a brother, Roy C. Blackmore of Tulsa, OK and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Miriam Blackmore Cox, of Milford, Ohio.
Services will be held at the Wilmington Church of Christ at 11:00 a.m.Wednesday, April 10, 2013 with Pastor Dale McCamish officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday, from 5:00-8:00 pm .
