Robert Bales

Robert Dane Bales, age 71, of Leesburg passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home. He was born in Ross County, Ohio on February 12, 1941. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1959 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served from 1959-1968, having served two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Highland County Water Company on July 12, 2008.

He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Wendell and Geneva Chrisman near Hillsboro, Ohio. His Aunt Geneva still survives.

Other survivors include his wife, Sarah (Chaney) Bales, whom he married on May 1, 1970; two daughters, Robyn (Mark) Gleadle, of Leesburg, Ohio, and Cheryl (Steve) Bucholtz of New Carlisle, Ohio. Also surviving is a sister, Joanne (Bob) Helterbrand, of Greenfield, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Kara and Raymond; a cousin, Marsha (Chrisman) Brown, of Sabina, OH, as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in the Samantha Methodist Cemetery . Visitation will be Tuesday, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 East Main Street, Hillsboro. Military honors will be given by the Highland County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hillsboro Veterans Service Commission, 135 N. High Street, Hillsboro, OH  45133.
