RICHARD OLEN 'TOM' THOMPSON

Richard Olen "Tom" Thompson, age 91, of Mowrystown, Ohio, passed away Thursday,  May 31, 2012 at his residence.

He was born May 13, 1921 in Adams County, Ohio, son of the late Elvis and Goldie Smalley Thompson.

He was a member and Deacon of the Mowrystown Church of Christ; was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and was an avid gardener. Mr. Thompson was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, and a member of the American Legion Roy W. Wilson Jr.  Post #694. He was also a graduate of Whiteoak High School Class of 1940, and was a well know auto mechanic having worked at H & M Garage in Mowrystown and later for Jack Matson Autos and Haag Motors.

Surviving is his daughter, Linda Nave, of Mowrystown, granddaughter, Melissa (Jeff) Docter of Mowrystown, great-granddaughter, Stephanie Suzanne Docter, and great-grandson, Zachary Scott Docter. Other survivors are his brother, Virgil (Marlene) Thompson, of Winchester, sister, Elizabeth Russell, Mowrystown, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Beucler, Sardinia, Mary Evelyn King, Hillsboro, Shirley Ann Berry, Blanchester, and Kay Martin, Sardinia. Brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Maria) Martin Jr., of Leavenworth, Kan, John (Annette) Martin, Indianapolis, IN, Ralph (Beverly) Martin, of Dunnillan, FL, and Robert Martin , of Cincinnati, survive, as well as many nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents,  Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Ruth Thompson, his son, Donald Lee Thompson, four sisters, Lavora Windom, Geneva Fist, Delpha Neu, and Allene Wardlow. Other family members preceding him were brothers-in-law, Charles Windom, Mickey Fist, Harold Neu, Ray Russell, Don Wardlow, Don King, Kenneth Martin, Franklin Martin, Harold Beucler, and Bud Berry, and sisters-in-law, Audra Martin, Carolyn Martin, and Maria Martin.

Services will be held at Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown, 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012  with Pastor Jerry Mueller  officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sardinia Cemetery, Sardinia, Ohio where the Highland County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.

Friends will be received at Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown, Ohio on Sunday, June 3, 2012, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
