Richard Ludwig Kroll,
Age 86,  died at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, Ohio on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.  He was born in Shadyside, Ohio, on June 30, 1925 to the late George & Fannie (Wak) Kroll. On June 9, 1952 in Bethseda, Ohio,  he married his wife of 59 years, Erma L. Heath Kroll.
Richard earned his BS in Science and Masters in Administration from Ohio University, he did studies toward his Doctorate at Antioch College through the National Science Foundation .
He spent his career as a teacher, first at Berne Union, Brilliant and Salineville, Ohio, and later spent 24 years at Wilmington High School teaching science and driver’s education.  He came to Wilmington HS as the Athletic Director and continued for many years in a variety of coaching positions. He coached Varsity Golf from 1960 until he retired, his last year of coaching golf the team brought home the SCOL Championship. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, camping and hunting, hiking and mushroom hunting. He was an active member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church and his Sunday School class for over 50 years.  He served in the US Navy and served in WWII in the Pacific. He received his 50 year award in 2011 from the American Legion Post 49.
He was a lifetime member of Snow Hill Country Club where he was active in the Men’s Golf league. In 1995 he was a member of the winning team - Net Division - of the Oldsmobile Scramble National Championship held at Disneyworld, Florida.  Mr. Kroll was a volunteer at the Clinton Memorial Hospital for over 15 years and had also delivered meals-on-wheels to shut-ins.  He was active at the senior citizens in Wilmington, playing cards and pool until just Thursday of last week.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters- Melody Joy of Wilmington, Carol (Ed) Caputo of Fairfax Virginia, Kimberly (Mac Ryan) Kroll of Gainesville, Virginia and Ritchie (Henson) DeBreuler of Fredericksburg, VA.  He is survived by 9 adoring grand-children,  JR, Matt and Tim Joy (Melody), Chris and Jason Caputo (Carol), Kelsey Ryan (Kim) and Heather, Henson, & Devon DeBruler (Ritchie).  He is also survived by a niece, Donna Joseph of Shadyside, and great-nephews Joel and Jarad Joseph. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Clyde(Marlene) Heath, Waverly, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George Kroll and sister Cilli Kroll.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 PM, Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, East Locust Street at North Walnut Street, WIlmington, Rev, John Camton officiating. The Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Memorial Squad will accord Military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of services with a reception of friends following the memorial service.
