Phyllis Brindle Gillam,
age 96, of North Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Wilmington, OH, passed away Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015 in Cape Coral, Florida.
She was born June 8, 1919 in Wilmington, Ohio, daughter of the late Raymond Oscar & Lenna Mae (Pendell) Brindle.
Mrs. Gillam graduated from Reesville High School Class of '38, where she was active in the 4-H Club; Received a class scholarship to Wilmington College in 1938 and graduated in 1940 with a teacher's degree and then taught in Clinton County, Ohio and Wilmington, Ohio City Schools for 28.5 years retiring in the spring of 1981. Was a member of the Tau Theta Ki Sorority and played in the Wilmington College Band. Attended the Wilmington United Methodist Church and was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in North Fort Myers, FL, where she was very active being the church organist, pianist, church choir, V.Pres. of the UMW Group, the calling committee and drove cars for Lincoln-Mercury with the church volunteers. During WW II, Phyllis lived in Victoria & Edna, Texas. In 1982, she moved to the Tamiami Village in North Fort Myers where she was active in the hobby group and the Tamiami Village Association..
Surviving are her 3 daughters- Jonda Kay (Ken) Schapeler of Mount Vernon, MO, Julie Ann McClish of Fort Myers, FL, & Beverly June (Dennis) Holland of Clarksville; grandchildren- Jason (Cheryl) Beardsley of Gainesville, FL, Joshua (Tiffany) Beardsley of Lakeland, FL, Craig (Miranda) Holland of Clarksville, OH, & Carly (Chad) Caudy of White Bluff, TN; great-grandchildren- Jakob, Amarissa, Elizabeth, Lillian, Ashley, Tanner, Sarah, & Katherine; and nephew-Kevin Sieg, Naples, FL..
In addition to her parents, Mrs Gillam was preceded in death by a sister- Kathleen Sieg, brother-in-law- Robert Dean Sieg and son-law- Billy McClish
Memorial Services will be held at a later date at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2951 Trail Dairy Cir, North Fort Myers, FL 33917 with Rev Tom Willetts officiating. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 12 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Pastor Mike McCormick officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington.
Friends will be received from 1PM to 2 PM, Saturday, Dec 12 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home.
