Maynard R. Surber, 92, of 3275 Taylorsville Road passed away peacefully at the home of his birth on July 26, 2012. A veteran of WWII, he was united in marriage to the late America Isabelle Donohoo on September 17, 1943. Maynard and Isabelle were married for over fifty seven years and were the parents of two sons, James (Carla) and John (Connie). Aside from time spent in the war, Maynard lived his entire life on the Surber family farm where he partnered with brother Cedric in the dairy business for over fifty years. He had been a leader in the Union Church of Christ as Elder, Sunday school teacher and chorister for many decades. He was a retired Army Colonel, founding member of the Highland County Fairboard, and member of the Masonic Lodge. Although confined to his home in recent years, he remained active and engaged with the help of many friends and neighbors. He is survived by his brother, two sons and their wives, seven grandchildren: Shawn (Rebecca) of Leesburg; Shannon of Eugene, Oregon; Traci (James) of Sabina; Geoffrey (Jessie) of Greenville; Susan of Indianapolis; Todd of Greenfield; and Gregory of Baltimore, Maryland; one great grand-daughter, Brooklin, one niece, Carol Srode (William) of Vandalia, and three nephews, Jerald (Martha) of Cincinnati, Terry of Dayton and David of Indianapolis.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Union Church of Christ with Pastor Andrew Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Saturday at the church starting at 9:00 a.m until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery where the Highland County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
