Mary Jean Patton, age 93, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday morning, June 22, 2013 at the Jewish Hospital in Blue Ash, OH.
She was born Thursday, November 6, 1919 in Springfield, Ohio, daughter of the late Lincoln Ansley and Mary Ann (Butler) Detrick. She married John Brentlinger Patton IV on January 30, 1942, who passed away in 1989. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Patton was preceded in death by her brother, Warren Detrick.
Mrs. Patton was a member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, YMCA, Lion's Club Auxiliary, Junior Mothers Club, and several bridge clubs. She volunteered at Clinton Memorial Hospital and worked many years as a greeter at Edgington Funeral Home. She will be remembered for her quick smile and even quicker wit, and the ability to make each person that crossed her path feel special. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching and supporting her favorite teams no matter if they were local, college, or professional.

Patton, is survived by her daughter, Pamela Jean (Richard) Thompson of Wilmington, son, John Brentlinger (Vickie) Patton V of Wilmington, sister, Margaret Rector of Wilmington, sister-in-law, Eloise Detrick of Punta Gorda, FL, grandson, Robert Lincoln (Jill) Thompson of Wilmington, grandson, John Brentlinger (Lisa) Patton VI of Washington Court House, grandson, William Patton (Kim) Thompson of Wilmington, grandson, Christopher Patton of Wilmington, granddaughter, Marianne (Troy) Diels of Port Clinton, OH, and grandson, Scott Detrick Patton of Wilmington. Also surviving are great-grandchild, J. B., Jarett, and Trae Patton, Anne and Adam Thompson, Kennedy and Ella Thompson, and Caroline, Lauren, and Juliana Diels, as well as many nieces, nephews, & cousins. Mrs. Patton treasured her family, was a beloved friend to many and a stranger to none.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry, Wilmington, with Pastor Mike Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield, OH.
Friends will be received 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington.
