Leonard J. Redmond,
age 93, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Wednesday evening, April 22, 2015 at the Cape May Retirement Community in Wilmington.
He was born October 14, 1921 in McHenry, MS, son of the late George F. & Alpine E. (Lott) Redmond. On April 21, 1944 in Hillsboro, he married Sena Marie (Doak) Redmond, who passed away August 11, 2014. After the couple was married, they went on a wedding trip to Washington, D.C. and started their married life in Wilmington. Mr. Redmond retired in 1977 from his trucking business of 28 years. Mr. Redmond had also served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946.
He was a member of the Wilmington American Legion Post #49, where he participated in the Memorial Squad, the Wilmington VFW Post #6710, and the Teamsters while he was working.
Surviving are his daughter- Carolyn (Walt) Simkins of Monroe, OH; sons- David G. (Mary) Redmond of Circleville, OH, & John D. (Maria) Redmond of Bethel, OH; 12 grandchildren; special niece- Kathy (Jay Wiswell) Cook of Wilmington: 34 great-grandchildren; sister- Georgia R. Fore of McHenry, MS and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Leonard was preceded in death by his sister- Margurette Walker and 3 nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 27, 215 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry Street, Wilmington with Pastor Ben Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinton County Memory Gardens, Wilmington, where the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Memorial Squad will accord full military honors.
Friends will be received from 1-2 PM, Monday, at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home.
