Lawrence Edward McKinney -
age 84 - of Toronto, Ohio a former resident of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Friday - November 11, 2011 at the Dixon Nursing Center - Wintersville, Ohio. He loved life, his wife and family. He lived life to the fullest.
He was born January 13, 1927 in North Adams, Massachusetts the son of the late George Francis McKinney and Florence Bell O’Dell McKinney.
Lawrence is a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Wilmington and attended the Abundant Life First Assembly of God Church in Toronto and was a volunteer at His Hands Food Pantry of Toronto. He was also a member of the Martinsville, Ohio Lions Club and the Toronto and Wilmington Senior Citizens.
He served his country in the Army Air Corp during W.W.II and the Air Force during the Korean War. He was in air rescue operations stationed in Greenland.
Lawrence retired as a ground mechanic for the former Airborne Express Co. of Wilmington, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife - Leona Luczynski McKinney whom he married Nov. 24, 1951, sons - Lawrence E. McKinney, Jr. and Mark A. McKinney, brother - Allen McKinney, sisters - Lorraine Drummond, Margaret Mohl and Jean Delisle.
Lawrence’s survivors are: daughters Cindy A. (Lloyd) Hill of Toronto with whom he lived and Wanda M. Hicks of Cosby, Tennessee, son - George L. McKinney of Wilmington, Ohio, daughter-in-law - Carol McKinney of Greenfield, Ohio, sister-in-law - Emma Krypel of Adams, Massachusetts, brother-in-law- Jerry Delisle. Also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours for Lawrence will be 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday Nov. 15th at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home - 97 West Locust St. - Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
Prayers will be said 10:35 AM, Wednesday at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home with a funeral liturgy and mass celebrated 11:00 A.M. Wednesday Nov. 16th at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington with Rev. James Wedig officiating. Interment will follow at the Clinton County Memory Gardens.
There will be full military honors at the Clinton County Memory Gardens by the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Memorial Squad.
