Karen Sue Deck, age 69, of Wilmington, died Monday evening, January 9, 2012 surrounded by her family and under the care of Community Care Hospice. She is survived by her husband Thomas (Tom) Deck. They were married August 15, 1971 at the New Antioch Church of Christ.
Karen was born January 12, 1942 in Martinsville, daughter of Earl and Alice Dabe West.
She was a 1960 graduate of Wilmington High School and was the class Salutatorian. She was the head cashier at Albers Supermarket until she retired in 1974 to be a stay at home Mom. She was an avid antique collector and enjoyed collecting many different items such as Wilmington memorabilia.
As Karen's friends know, she was a very private person. Her wishes were to keep her illness private and not burden her friends.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Angela (Tim) Henson of Hamilton, OH; a son, Eric (Ali) Deck of Gahanna, OH; seven grandchildren, Noah, Emily, Bryan and Elijah Henson and Kaiden, Kaeson, and Adrick Deck; a sister-in-law, Carla (John) Sweetwood of Atlanta, GA; and a brother-in-law, Robert Mead of Wilmington; as well as several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister Jane Ann Mead.
Friends may call from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home. The family will be having a private memorial service.
