  Joseph A. Smithson, age 91, of Clarksville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday night, December 19, 2023 at his home.  
 
 He was born November 29, 1932 in Clarksville, Ohio son of the late James N. and Mellie J. (Hill) Smithson. On August 11, 1960 he married Helen (DeBoard) Smithson, who passed away on March 22, 2023.
 
 Joseph was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from General Motors as a machine repairman and attended Bethany Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, gardening, and taking care of his yard, but most importantly he provided for his family.
 
 Surviving are three daughters: Lorna (Mack) Kiser, Joetta Smithson, & Cyndi (Jerry) Merriman; grandchildren: Bryan (Marilin) Fisher, Shara Cox, Mallory (John) Dittly, Tiffany Ailshire, Brandon (Cheryl) Kennison, Liberty (Rick) Goodman, Julie (Tim) Kelley, Emily Holden, & Jared (Liz) Merriman; 19 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, & numerous nieces & nephews. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law: Anna Mae Williams & Marlene DeBoard; brother, Robert (Joyce) Smithson; special friends: Marian & Fred  Elam, Mary & Sarah, & Doug Fisher.
 
 In addition to his parents and wife, Joseph was preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Kay Fisher, daughter and son-in-law, Denise & Kenny Ailshire, brother & sister-in-law, Harold & Janet Smithson, sister & brother-in-law, Marjorie & Quinten Culbertson, sister & brother-in-law, Anna Lou & Gene Valentine.
 
 Funeral Services will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locust St. Wilmington, Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Tim Bradshaw officiating.  Interment will follow in the Miami -Corwin Cemetery, Waynesville, Ohio, where the Franklin V.F.W. Post #7596 will accord full military honors.
 
 Friends will be received at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
 
 Contributions in Joseph's memory may be made to the Community Care Hospice, 1669 Rombach Ave. Wilmington, OH 45177 or to Bethany Baptist Church, 10156 St. Rt. 350 Clarksville, OH 45113.
