John  Dunaway,
age 94, of New Vienna, Ohio, formerly of the Fremont, Iowa area, passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 2015 at the Dayton VA Hospice Unit.

He was born August 16, 1920 in Ollie, Iowa, son of the late Charles Miller& Alicia Marie (McLansborough) Dunaway.  He married Ellen Bastiansen Dunaway, who preceded him in death.
Following high school, John joined the United States Navy where he completed flight training and fought in WWII.  He then married and worked as a carpenter in Minneapolis, MN.  He moved back to the Fremont, Iowa area in the 1960's where he farmed and did carpentry work, especially for Parson's College.  He sold the farm and retired in the early 2000's.  He still checked on the farm daily when he was living in Iowa and when he moved to New Vienna, Ohio, he checked on things at his daughter's farm.  He loved black Angus cattle, health and nutrition, reading western novels and loved his family..  His favorite hobby was hard work.

He was a member of the American Legion and early on was very active in the Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Cynthia (Paul) Murphy of Gloucester, MA son, Thomas (Lori) Dunaway of Minneapolis, MN, son, Timothy (Mary) Dunaway of Shelbiana, MO, daughter, Nancy (Mike) McCormick of New Vienna, OH, daughter, Betsy (David) Von Muenster of New Liberty, IA, son, Eric (Cheryl) Dunaway of Minnetrista, MN, daughter, Kristin (Thomas) Resek of Camden, Maine, 11 grandchildren- Zachary, Tyler, Megan,& Mitchel Dunaway,  Jennifer & Tess McCormick,  Steven & Lisa Von Muenster, Benjamin & Andy  Resek, and Bryan; 5 great-grandchildren- Tallia McCormick,  Anna Bella & Emmaline Von Muenster, Lilly Dunaway, & Theo Resek; & a sister- Jean Barry.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son- Andy Dunaway; a brother- James Dunaway; & 2 sisters- Helen Dunaway & Ruth Camp.

Ohio Celebration of Life Services will be held 6:00 PM,  Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Chester Friends Meeting, 3451 Gurneyville Road, Wilmington.  The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM.  After the Celebration Services,  there will be light refreshments in honor of John's appetite in which homemade deserts will be served.
Iowa Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Fremont Funeral Center in Fremont, Iowa, where burial will be held in the Wymore Cemetery, near Rose Hill, Iowa.  The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the time of services.
