Joann M. Slaven, age 77, of the Wilmington area, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Quaker Heights Community Care Center in Waynesville, OH.

She was born April 21, 1940 in Xenia, OH, daughter of the late Charles Lester Rhodes and Kathleen Virginia Paynter Rhodes.

Mrs. Slaven had attended church, when her health had permitted, at the Sabina Baptist Church and Samantha Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Eric Slaven of Blanchester, daughter, Leighann (David) Babb of Wilmington, 3 granddaughters; Sarah Babb, Holly Babb, and Amy Babb, and a great grandson, Anthony Cline.

In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Leamon Slaven, her grandparents, who helped raise her, Norman and Grace Paynter, and a brother, Ronald L. Rhodes.

Services will be held at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locust St. at Mulberry St., Wilmington at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017.  Interment will follow in the New Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, OH.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, 1:30 until the time of service.
