Daniel Whitlock Banner, age 63, of Wilmington, OH, grew up in Greensboro, NC and lived most of his life in Durham, NC, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Cedar Village in Mason, OH.
He was born April 1, 1955 in Pulaski, VA, son of the late Charles Whitlock Banner Jr. and Mary Engle Hoffman Banner.
Dan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Woodberry Forest School, in Virginia and was also a graduate of the University of North Carolina. He taught high school math, and coached baseball for 23 years and then worked at social services for fourteen years.
Surviving are wife, Mary Holmes Banner of Wilmington, OH, whom he married December 28, 1996, son, James (Hazel) Banner of Orlando, FL, daughter, Elisabeth Banner of Greensboro, NC, two step-sons, Mike (Brooke) Milbourne of San Carlos, CA, Jeff (Chelsea) Milbourne, of San Luis Obisbo, CA, three grandchildren, Ezra,Vivienne, and Nora, and his brother, Robert (Mary Ed) Banner of Greensboro, NC as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Banner,William Banner, and his sister, Josephine Banner.
A memorial service will be held at Wilmington Friends Meeting, Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Julie Rudd and Lori Pistor officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Friends will be received at the church Thursday, 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. The Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington is serving the family.
