Charles W. "Willard" Ward, age 87, of the New Market Community, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Heartland of Hillsboro in Hillsboro, OH.
He was born October 11, 1925 in Louden, Ohio, son of the late Walter Burtsell Ward and Lena Leota Gordley Ward.
He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of The Nazarene, VFW Post # 9094; was a member of the Emmaus Community; a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and was known as the unofficial "Mayor of New Market".
Surviving is his wife, Joyce Ward, whom he married May 28, 1960, son, Larry (Patty) Ward of Columbus, daughter, Bess (Dan Cox) Grabovich of Columbus, daughter, Kim (Chuck) Taylor of Hillsboro, and son, Ron (Michelle) Ward of Hillsboro. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Amy Amspaugh, Perr y R . Ward, Jason Grabovich, Alex Ward, Megan Taylor, Miranda Leigh Skidmore, Ryan Ward, and Jakob Ward. Other survivors include 11 great grandchildren, a sister, Judy (Dick) Bracht, of Wilmington, and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Willard was preceded in death by a son, Rick Ward, granddaughter, Angela Mabry, two brothers, Richard Ward, Donnie ward, and a sister, Betty Lindsey.
Services will be held at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Tom Zile officiating. Interment will follow in the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the church on Saturday, March 9, 2013 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
