Charles Melvin Spurgeon,
age 84, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away, Friday evening, December 21, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
He was born September 11, 1928 in Port William, OH, son of the late Noah Wilson R. & Rosa Kathryn (Scott) Spurgeon.
A 1946 graduate of Port William High School, Mr. Spurgeon served in the US Army during the Korean & Vietnam Wars from 1953 to 1977. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Ohio American Legion.
Surviving are daughter- Charline Kay (Michael) Boyle of Martinsville, OH; son- Michael Dana Spurgeon of Wilmington, OH; grandson- Chase Francis Boyle; sister- Ida Kathryn Miller of Dayton, OH; many nieces & nephews; and a sister-in-law- Freda P. Spurgeon, Jeffersonville.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers- Spencer Francis Spurgeon, & Noah Russell Spurgeon; sister- Alice Mae Carson, and infant sister, Virginia Spurgeon.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, December 24 at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry Street, Wilmington. The Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Memorial Squad will accord full military honors immediately following the services. Interment will follow in the May Hill Cemetery, May Hill, Ohio.
