Charles Edward Downey,
age 79, of Blanchester, Ohio, died Wednesday evening, November 6, 2013 at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Blanchester.
He was born December 22, 1933 in Lima, OH, son of the late Harold & Esther Downey. On July 21, 1951 in Lima, Ohio, he married Barbara A. Groves, who survives.
A member of Villars Chapel Methodist Church, Charles served 2 years in the Army Reserve. His passion was being a meatcutter for over 40 years in various local grocery stores. He also worked as a custodian at the Morrow School and last worked in the Dietary Dept. at the Clinton Memorial Hospital.
In addition to his wife, other surviving family members are his daughter- Cheryl (Jeff) Young of Xenia, OH; son- Charles (Jacqui) Downey, of St. Augustine, FL; four grandchildren- Jennifer Downey, St. Augustine, FL, Nathan Downey, Norfolk, VA, Tammy Cox and Robert (Tiffany) Hammond, both of Xenia;. nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister- Shirley Eifert of Lima, OH; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother- Harold Downey.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Villars Chapel Methodist Church, 3852 W. SR 350, Clarksville with Rev. Jim Weible officiating. Interment in Clinton County Memory Gardens was held at the family's convenience. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:30 to 11:00 AM, Monday, Nov. 11 at the church.
