Beverly Ann (Emery) McConnaughey

March 9, 1947 - August 19, 2022

Beverly Ann (Emery) McConnaughey, 75, of the Buford/Hollowtown Area, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Highland District Hospital under the care of Hospice of Hope. She was born on March 9, 1947, in Hillsboro, Ohio, to her parents the late Harry and Marie (Glascock) Emery.

Beverly had many hobbies and passions in her life. Her faith was forefront, as she was a lifelong member of the Sugartree Ridge Church of Christ. She spent well over 50 years playing the piano with her friends Evelyn, Sandy and Kyler. Beverly was also a Sunday School teacher for many years and the church custodian. You could say it was her labor of love, but she would say it was her duty and honor. (She did it for the Lord, one of her many sayings.) She was also one of the best bakers in the area. She likely has made a wedding cake, pie, donuts, or cinnamon rolls for many of the families in Highland County. She was a loyal supporter of the Buford Farmer’s Institute since around 1964, and many of her baked goods would be auctioned for a substantial sum of money for whatever charity requested it. She began her baking career at home with her Mother and sisters, but also worked with Roy and Sally Tener at the bakery in Hillsboro.

Her family was one of Beverly’s most proud achievements here on this earth. She had a hand in raising all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they were better for it.

She is survived by her six loving children, Katrina (Gale) Allen of Dodsonville Area, Regina (Danny) Croy of Buford/Hollowtown Area, Michael (Candice) McConnaughey of Milford, Chad (Becky) McConnaughey of Lynchburg, Nathan (Sherry) McConnaughey of Vandalia, and Jason (Lillian) McConnaughey of Danville; 16 grandchildren: Steven (Becki) Collins, Jacob Allen, Felicia (Geoff) Underwood, Blake (Cailee) Croy, Jordan (Brooklynn) McConnaughey, Braydon, Gavin, J and Brent McConnaughey, Hayley, Ethan (Lindsey Mitchell), William and Tate McConnaughey, Grant and Emery McConnaughey and Gatlin McConnaughey; nine great-grandchildren: Ciri Edwards, Easton, Bentley and Maverick Collins, Cameron and Carlee Burson, Dallas and Grayson Underwood, and Cayden McConnaughey. Also four foster-grandchildren; Tyler, John, Ava and Layla and four siblings; Phyllis (Howard) Bohl, Mary Smith, Marilyn (Paul) Hanselman and Vera (Joe) Robinson, and sisters-in-law Gracie Emery, Sandra Richmond and Nikki (Ron) Tracy. Along with many nieces and nephews and several close family members and friends, a special Davita nurse, Mary Morgan and Nephrologists Dr. Betty and Dr. Haq, along with the Sugartree Ridge Church of Christ Ladies Aid Members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Stephen Edwin McConnaughey on May 7, 2010, her father and mother-in-law Elwood and Virginia McConnaughey, brother Gordon Emery, sister Betty Gossett, grandson Tyson McConnaughey, and a brothers-in-law, Jerry McConnaughey and John Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Sugartree Ridge Church of Christ (2240 St Route 136, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133). It will be a funeral service only and doors will not open until 10:45 am. Burial will follow at the Hamer Township Cemetery. Officiating the service will be close friends, Danny Dodds, Dan Knisley, Drue Lane and Rob Rhodes.
