Dennis Harris

Dennis H. Harris, 79, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. Born June 21, 1942, Dennis was a graduate of Clintondale High School, Mt. Clemens, MI in June 1960. He was a running back for the Clintondale High School Dragons first football team as well as starting point guard on the inaugural varsity basketball team. And, he always smiled at the thought or speaking of his high school singing group "The Marathons"! Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force. Following basic training in Texas he was stationed at Clinton County Air Force Base, Ohio.
While serving at Clinton Air Force Base, Dennis met and then married Mary Hamilton on July 5, 1963. Dennis was deployed for two tours of duty in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic and eventually retired after 20 years and returned to Wilmington, Ohio. He continued serving his country for 30 years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Dennis took great pride in volunteering with the VFW as a valued member and Quarter Master among other duties and his love for his grandchildren was second to none. He was a fixture at all of their activities and sporting events; his pride evident through his smile and cheers.
In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Harris Puller and Kimberly Washington., six grandchildren, David Washington, Sarah Washington, Blair Washington, Marcus Nared, Jessica Puller and Justin Puller. Also surviving are his beloved great grandchildren, Alexis, Jennika, Josiah, Kiairah, Serenity, Breslin, Brielle, Kymree, Layla and Jaxon; seven siblings, Vernic Terry, Carolyn Mial, William (Nancy) Harris, Deborah (Donald) Overton, Alec (Lyn) Harris, Rhoda (Ricardo) Bartlett, and Rodney Mark Harris as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family members and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Sr. and Bernice Harris, siblings Grover Harris Jr., Ruby Jean O'Donker, Constance Coleman, Wesley Harris, Nancy Jean Harris, Michael Harris and Larry Harris.
Services will be held privately Friday, July 16, 2021 at the convenience of the family at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locust St. Wilmington, OH 45177 with Rev. Floyd Banks officiating. Burial with military honors by the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard will take place in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.
